Biography:

Painter, engraver, draughtsman and tapestry designer, Jules Lismonde was born in Anderlecht. From being a child he was passionate about drawing. He had a preference for charcoal, initially for urban views and landscapes of a synthetic, constructed nature, but later turned to abstract linear compositions, sometimes vibratile or gestural, sometimes very architectural. Among other works, he created gestural figures in Indian ink that provided the inspiration for several of his tapestries and numerous prints (mainly lithographs). He was a member of the 'Jeune Peinture Belge' and Cap d'Encre' groups.
